Firefighters hose down the trailer of a big rig Tuesday, November 6, 2012, following an accident. Pennsylvania State Police, Carlisle, reported the crash as fatal on Interstate 81 southbound at mile post 30.5 near Shippensburg, Pa., that occurred around 9:50am. There were two vehicles involved in the crash. A tractor trailer was engulfed in flames. The second vehicle involved is a pickup truck. More information will be released at a later time. Lowe’s Fire Prevention/Kid’s Safety Day: Lowe’s of Shippensburg, 250 Conestoga Drive, will host its annual Fire Prevention/Kid Safety Day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6. According to organizer Matt Hawbaker, more than 35 modern and antique fire and rescue vehicles will be on site, as well as two medic helicopters and a police car. A variety of activities for kids will take place, including a fire truck bounce house and a visit from Smokey the Bear. Kids will also be able to build their own fire truck or police car through the Build and Grow Kids Clinic. The Cumberland County Mobile 911 Truck will also be on site. Firefighters will show off their skills through two demonstrations: an air bag recovery demo at noon, and the Dewalt Car Cutting Challenge featuring West End Fire and Rescue vs. Wiconisco Fire Department, from Dauphin County, at 2 p.m. A chicken barbecue, to benefit Shippensburg Area Emergency Services Junior Division, will also be available.
