In the winter months, there isn’t always much going on around Shippensburg. With snow potentially canceling events and chilly weather making people want to hibernate, watching a movie can be an enjoyable and low-key way to spend an afternoon or evening.
If you want to venture out to the local Chambersburg Mall, here are three movies currently showing at the Carmike movie theater that I recommend:
Side Effects – Things aren’t what they seem in this thriller. Whether you go with a date or your best friend, you’ll be dissecting …

Happy 2013! Now that the confetti has settled and the champagne hangovers have gone away, its time to reflect on 2012 and plan for the new year ahead. What did you love about last year, and what would you like to improve?
Resolutions are great for making changes, and a new year is the perfect time to start fresh. Below, I’ve made a list of some resolutions you might want to try out. I’ve tried to keep them all low-key, so they’ll be easier to stick with. No …

As you’re driving your sleigh – or Chevrolet – all over Shippensburg during this holiday season, you’ll most likely be hearing a lot of seasonal music on the radio.
But if you’re having a blue Christmas hearing about chestnuts roasting and rocking around the Christmas tree and you can sing the names of all those darn reindeer in your sleep, fear not! Here is my holiday playlist of songs to jam along with while you check off all those tasks on your yuletide to-do list:
- Wham! “Last Christmas” …

I want to start off this week’s post by congratulating the Shippensburg University Red Raiders football team on an awesome season and a great effort during last week’s game against Winston-Salem State University. While the rest of us were recovering from our turkey hangover and shopping coma, these guys were down in North Carolina fighting in the second round of the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Football Championships. While our boys were not successful, their stellar season gives our small-town school a lot to be …

Note: This blog is typically about Shippensburg night life. But with the recent weather, some bloggers opted for a Hurricane Sandy related entry.

By now, you’ve no doubt been flooded with news reports and social media updates about Hurricane Sandy’s trip across the northeastern United States. After any large weather event, reporters usually love seek out residents in hard-hit areas and interview those locals on what they experienced.
I decided to take this opportunity to hit the streets and see how people in my area (downtown Chambersburg, which was affected …

If you’re young, young at heart or just love a good scare, Halloween is right around the corner. The holiday is especially good for this blog, as everyone knows that the best spooky fun happens at night.
The Shippensburg Wal-Mart is fully stocked with costumes and candy for kids, adults and even pets. My cat, Felix, will be sporting his Philadelphia Eagles jersey and pretending to be Desean Jackson.
Wal-mart has many costumes and accessories for around $10. Check out some of the masks I came upon last weekend …

Wibs is like the “Jersey Shore” of Shippensburg nightlife. So many people make fun of how ridiculous it is, and yet they keep coming back every week for more.
Located on Queen Street, Wibs has been a member of the Shippensburg community for 23 years. If you’re a college student or just want to party like you are, this is a place to check out.
Wibs was just ranked as the 9th best college bar on BroBible’s “The 100 Best College Bars for Bros” list. So, there’s that.
The bar has …

By SARAH GILBERT; blogger
I took a few unplanned weeks off, a summer vacation of sorts. My return to the blogosphere coincides well with the start of the new school year, which brings thousands of students back to the Shippensburg area for another year of college. To my college readers, I’m extremely jealous of you. I adored my years at Ship and would repeat them in a heartbeat. Enjoy this time and make the most of it, because as Tom Petty said, “the work never ends, but college does.”
This week …

H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University

By SARAH GILBERT; blogger
So it seems that this little blog of mine has turned into a who’s who of the Shippensburg restaurant and bar scene. My vision for this space was to cover all the happenings around town after dark, but let’s be honest, much of Shippensburg closes up at sundown. I intend to appeal to the masses and I realize that there are a lot of families in Shippensburg. I understand that for many who live in this area (and hopefully read this blog!), night time begins a …
