Luhrs Center releases 2014-2015 schedule

SHIPPENSBURG >> The H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University announced its 2014-2015 season schedule today.

Single tickets, season subscriptions and flex series tickets go on sale Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m.

The 2014-2015 season kicks off on August 23 with Terry Fator’s return to the Luhrs Center for his “It Starts Tonight Tour” and then concludes in the summer.

This season’s blockbuster performances include: Trace Adkins (Sept. 12); Phillip Phillips (Sept. 18)   Taylor Dayne (Sept. 26); The Beach Boys (Oct. 25); Terry Bradshaw: America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde…A Life in Four Quarters (Nov. 7); Ariat Presents Josh Turner – Roughstock and Rambler Tour (Nov. 13); Lisa Williams – Voices from the Other Side (Nov. 20); Celtic Thunder “Symphony” Tour (Dec. 3 & 4); The Oak Ridge Boys’ Christmas Night Out (Dec. 11); Foreigner (Feb. 14); RAIN – A Tribute To The Beatles (Feb. 18); STOMP (Feb. 24); Mnozil Brass (Feb. 28); Rhythm in the Night: The Irish Dance Spectacular (Mar. 17); Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Mar. 28); Pilobolus (Apr. 16); The Hit Men (Apr. 18); Jackie Evancho “Awakening Tour” (Apr. 23) and Johnny Rivers (May 30).

To tickle your funny bone, we’re offering Terry Fator “It Starts Tonight Tour” (Aug. 23); Last Comic Standing Live Tour (Oct. 1), and Billy Gardell (Nov. 15).   And for those who love our Broadway performances, we proudly present The Inspiration of Broadway Tour with Ernie Haase and Signature Sound with J. Mark McVey (of Les Miserables fame) (Oct. 17); RAIN – A Tribute To The Beatles (Feb. 18); and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Apr. 9).   The Lightning Thief (Dec. 6) and The Teacher from the Black Lagoon and Other Storybooks (Jan. 25) are family-friendly performances for younger children from TheatreWorks USA.  And join Jack Hanna’s Into The Wild Live! (Jan. 29) for an evening of Jack’s favorite animal friends and stories that the entire family will enjoy.

The Proteus Lecture Series features best-selling author, teacher and essayist, Ron Suskind (Nov. 5) who will speak on the topic of “Life, Animated” which recounts his struggle with their youngest son, Owen, and his diagnosis of regressive autism.

In support of Shippensburg University’s H.O.P.E. Diversity Scholarship Program, New York Times best-selling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Wil Haygood, will speak on the topic of “The Butler: A Witness to History” (Feb. 26) which traces the award-winning blockbuster film, The Butler, based on a story he wrote for the Washington Post.

The Luhrs Center will again be hosting a special gala event preceding this year’s performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Apr. 9).  Luhrs Circle of Friends Gala (Apr. 9) is a night of friendship, festivities and fabulous food to help support the Luhrs Center.  A donation to the Gala affords the donor outstanding member benefits such as priority ticket ordering, invitation to the Annual Fund President’s Recognition Dinner, and more.

Ballroom Dance Lessons are offered on the Luhrs Center stage as Beginner, Advanced and Third-Timers classes for a 6 week period (weekly, beginning March 16).   Taught by seasoned dance instructor, Frank Hancock, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics or brush up on your skills as a Beginner; or learn the more advanced steps in the Advanced or Third Timers classes.
