Shippensburg University sweeps PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

EDINBORO – Shippensburg University had quite the successful weekend when it swept the 2013 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

The Red Raiders won their third consecutive title, convincingly scoring 197.5 team points and beating second-place East Stroudsburg by more than 75 points. Ship now has a league-best six titles.

Matt Gillette won the Track MVP as well as the Overall Meet MVP after capturing first in both the one mile and the 3K on Sunday. In the mile, he finished in 4:13.40, and in the 3K, he crossed the finish line at 8:18.52, edging out Alex Monroe of Lock Haven. Gilette was also the anchor of the winning 4×800 relay, which finished in 7:48.27, on Saturday.

The Lady Raiders came back after being in fourth place following the first day of competition. Ship scored 125.25 points to edge runner-up Edinboro, which finished with 93.

The title is Ship’s fourth consecutive PSAC championship and its sixth overall.

Katrina Spratford was named the Track MVP when she earned first-place finishes in both the one mile and 3K. Her respective times were 5:00.18 and 9:50.86.

Also leading the Lady Raiders on Sunday was Megan Lundy, who took the top spot in the 400 meter dash in 57.38.
