SHAPE has various winter workshops on its schedule
Local arts organization, Shippensburg Arts Programming and Education will host a variety of winter workshops taught by area artists. All classes are held at the gallery, 20 W. King St., Shippensburg.
Two glassblowing workshops are available 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. Each night, a small group learns the basics of glass blowing by using a torch to shape and blow simple objects. Participants will gradually build their skills until they are able to create a bud vase or similar piece.
Taught by glassblower Mike Peluso, the workshops are geared for adults and limited to three people. No prior glass blowing experience is required. Advance registration is required, and there is a workshop fee.
Next week, the first of three workshops taught by local painter Mary Hickman kicks off. Participants will learn about color mixing in an “Exploring Pigment Qualities” workshop, held Thursday, Feb. 28, from 7-9 p.m.
Next month, Hickman hosts a “Drawing on the Fly” workshop March 21 from 7-9 p.m. Then, at the final workshop, Hickman will provide tips on “Using a Sketchbook” on April 25 from 7-9 p.m.
These affordable classes are for beginners of any age; there is a fee and materials list will be provided upon registration.
SHAPE also offers a “Watercolor Painting for Beginners” workshop series for all ages, taught by Jane Offner. The series kicks off next Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 7-9 p.m. The series continues March 5, 19 and 26 from 7-9 p.m.
