Staff report

Property taxes in the Shippensburg borough will remain at 2012 levels next year.

Shippensburg Borough Council approved the tax levy for both the Franklin County and Cumberland County portions of the borough this week. The borough’s split between Franklin and Cumberland counties is reflected through two different property tax rates, one for each county.

In the borough’s Cumberland County portion, the property tax will be 2.6 mills. For a property assessed at $100,000, that means a property tax of $260.

The property tax in the Franklin County portion will be 27.26 mills. That means the owner of a property assessed at $100,000 will need to pay $2,726.

Borough Manager Earl Parshall has told Public Opinion in the past that the drastic difference between the property rates of the two counties is due to the differing assessment values.
