Police release name from Friday evening fatal accident
LURGAN TOWNSHIP — A 49-year-old Shade Gap man was pronounced dead after an accident Friday evening on Newburg Road.
He died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest, the release states. The coroner’s officer had been notified at 5:37 p.m. with Conner arriving at 6:02 p.m.
Boyd had been speeding while driving west on Pa. 641 in the area of Clover Hill Road and crossed the double yellow line just prior to the crash at 5:19 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg.
Prior to crossing the double yellow line, Boyd had lost control of his 2005 Kia Optima thus resulting in his vehicle sliding sideways into the eastbound lane of Pa. 641, police said.
At this time, Abigail Catherine Grix, 19, Mifflintown, was driving east on Pa. 641, police said.
The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon that Grix was driving struck Boyd’s vehicle on the passenger side causing it to flip onto its roof and onto the front hood of Grix’s vehicle, police said.
Grix was flown from the scene by helicopter to Hershey Medical Center, police said.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and cell phones were not in use or present, police said. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Robinson’s Towing.
