Santaland Soiree set for Nov. 30
SHIPPENSBURB — Shippensburg Arts Programming and Education invites the community to attend a Santaland Soiree from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30. Guests will enjoy a visit to the gallery at 20 West King Street in Shippensburg, while sampling hors d’oeuvres prepared by local restaurant Knute’s Pub and Grill and a sampling of wine, beer and refreshing drinks.
Partnering again with Shippensburg University’s Theatre Department, SHAPE is excited to host a special reception to promote their production of “The Santaland Diaries.”
The reception will feature a pre-theatre buffet of hors d’oeuvres, wine, and sparkling juices at the gallery, 20 W. King St., with reserved tickets for the university production (all for $20 per person).
A limited number of tickets are available for this special event. To reserve your tickets, contact SHAPE at 532-2559 or email Tom Crochunis at firstname.lastname@example.org by November 25.
SHAPE Gallery hosts the first part of this special evening. Participants will have an opportunity to view the current “Give the Gift of Art” holiday exhibit at the gallery, gather with other patrons of the arts, and enjoy food and drink. Then, all will make their way to Memorial Auditorium on the Shippensburg University campus for the 8 pm performance of “The Santaland Diaries.”
The evening’s delicious meal will be catered by Knute’s Pub and Grill, and features pumpkin brandy soup, poached pear, cranberry and bleu cheese salad, pork roast stuffed with apricots and pistachios or sweet and sour pork, mushroom risotto, pumpkin and ginger snap parfaits and assorted Christmas cookies.
From American writer David Sedaris, “The Santaland Diaries” is the riotous account of his experience working as a Macy’s department store elf. The New Yorker magazine describes “The Santaland Diaries” as having, “A satirical brazenness that holds up next to Twain and Nathanael West.” Please note that this holiday performance is not recommended for anyone under the age of 13, however, the show is a special treat for parents who recognize the absurdities and mania of the holiday shopping season.
Performances of “The Santaland Diaries” take place at 8 pm from Wednesday November 28 until Saturday December 1 and at 2 pm for a Sunday matinee on December 2 in Memorial Auditorium on the Shippensburg campus.
This event is brought to you by SHAPE, a non-profit organization that aims to enrich the quality of life in the Shippensburg community through interactive cultural, artistic, and heritage activities. SHAPE serves as an information center for the arts, promotes and supports local artists and arts organizations, provides opportunities for participation and education in the arts for all members of the community, and plays an active role in helping our schools maintain the arts as an integral part of their curriculum.
