Shippensburg Area school board voted 8-0 to fill an empty seat at Monday night’s meeting. The selection is a familiar face.

Dr. William Gould, a 12-year veteran of the school board, was selected to fill the seat vacated by Jeffrey Albright at the last school board meeting.
Gould was president of the board before current president Herb Cassidy.

“It’ll be nice to have someone come in and hit the ground running,” said Cassidy. “He’s had 12 years experience. It’ll be nice to have someone with no learning curve.”

Shippensburg Area School District had until Feb. 22 — which was five days before the next scheduled school board meeting — to appoint a new member.
Albright works in Harrisburg, had his legal residence in Shippensburg, but also had spent time in Mechanicsburg.

He recently put his home up for sale in Shippensburg Area School District and decided to relocate.

Albright handed in his resignation letter to Cassidy Jan. 23. The school board had 30 days to fill the slot.

Cassidy said the board had three volunteers to fill the position.

“This is to inform you that I will own property on Hill Top Drive, but I am currently spending the majority of my time residing in Mechanicsburg,” Albright said in the letter. “I moved to be closer to my place of employment. I know I’m out of my district and have planned on resigning the first of the year.”

Albright was in the middle of his second term. The term will expire in 2013.
