Shippensburg Orchestra to feature trumpet soloist in concert and clinic
SHIPPENSBURG, Monday, Nov. 14 – The Shippensburg University Community Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Mark Hartman, will present “Classic Firsts and Trumpet Favorites” at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at
3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20.
This free performance will feature, along with the University’s Community Orchestra, trumpet soloist Judith Saxton, Artist Faculty and head of the brass division at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
Saxton will perform Joseph “Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto”, an all time audience favorite and the first piece to be written for the keyed trumpet. She will also join Shippensburg University faculty member and double reed player Dennis Ritz as duo soloists in Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City.”
In addition, Saxton will join two trumpet players from the orchestra to perform Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday.” The orchestra will begin the program with several movements from Handel’s “Water Music” and end with Beethoven’s “First Symphony.”
Saxton will also give a free clinic for brass students entitled “Basic Building Blocks for Brass” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov.19 in the Orrstown Bank lobby on the second floor of the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center.
Area trumpet students are welcome to come and bring their instruments to “Sing, Buzz, and Play” under the expert guidance of a seasoned pro who has played with the Chicago and St. Louis Symphonies and who will be in Shippensburg on the way to Carnegie Hall for a concert in early December.
Interested teachers and students are encouraged to call the University’s Department of Music and Theatre Arts for information and to register the number of students planning to participate in the clinic at 477-1638.

I am fan of this instrumental ensemble like orchestra. I like the symphony they use to perform . It looks more exciting when Saxton will participate in the orchestra too.
