SHIPPENSBURG – Shippensburg University weather observer Tim Hawkins reported 5.9 inches of snow from Saturday’s storm.

When melted, this equated to 1.18 inches of liquid water.  Some of this liquid 1.18 inches fell as rain at the very beginning of the storm.

This is only the fifth time since 1933 that it has snowed in October in Shippensburg.  Yesterday was the 4th earliest date that snow has fallen.  All the previous October snowfalls have been 1 inch or less.

A tree has fallen across Pa. 233 north, near Caledonia on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.

The earliest snowfall ever was 1 inch on Oct. 19, 1940 and 1972.

Adams Electric Cooperative was reporting that as 7:30 a.m. Monday, about 25 Shippensburg customers were still without power.
