Annual SU world party to be held Oct. 25
SHIPPENSBURG, Wednesday, Oct. 19 – Shippensburg University is planning a special celebration is planned in conjunction with the institutions International Celebration Week.
The annual Ship World Party: Celebrating Countries will be held at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in Cora I. Grove Spiritual Center adjacent to campus.
The event, planned and organized by social work students, will feature music, food and activities from many countries.
Senior social work major Lori Riley said that a core group of five social work students has been planning the event since the beginning of the semester. In addition to the social work department, Riley said the students also worked with Mary Burnett, associate dean of students and director of international programs.
With 125 to 150 people attending previous programs, the event is very popular with students and the community.
“We have about eight or ten countries that we are touching on but a lot more countries will be represented through a slide show,” said Riley.
Along with music, information and activities, Riley said the event also offers a taste of the world featuring a variety of foods with catered items as well as homemade dishes that represent different countries and cultures.
Admission is free, with opportunities to make a donation or bid on an item with proceeds going to a local charity.
The party will also include activities for children. Volunteers are also still needed for the event.
