SHIPPENSBURG, Tuesday, Sept. 20 — Two free music programs, including one by a Shippensburg University professor, are scheduled on campus in October.

The Chapel Series will feature the Atma Trio on Oct. 2 and a program featuring music by Dr. Dennis Ritz, Shippensburg music faculty member, is Oct. 16. Both programs are open to the public.

The trio will perform a program that features trios by Korngold and Chopin at 3 p.m. in Old Main Chapel.

Members of the trio are Blanka Bednarz, violin, associate professor of music and chair of the Department of Music at Dickinson College; Slawomir Dobrzanski, piano, assistant professor of piano and piano literature at Kansas State University; and Cheung Chau, cello, assistant professor and associate conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Connecticut. Chau is also music director of the Central Pennsylvania Orchestra and general and artistic director of Sinfonietta Polonia  in Poland.

Atma Trio, founded in 2002, has performed throughout the United States as well as in Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, Italy and China.

The Oct. 16 program at 3 p.m. in Memorial Auditorium is titled “Composers Recital: The Music of Dennis Ritz.” Central Pennsylvania professional musicians will perform a second recital featuring music composed by Ritz.

During his tenure at Shippensburg, Ritz restarted and built the Shippensburg University-Community Orchestra, founded the University Woodwind Ensembles program, and chaired the Department of Music for nine years.
